We all have habits. Some good, some bad. In this post I’m going to talk about some good habits to have, as well as ways to break bad habits that may hinder you from obtaining certain goals you may have and create more time to be productive.
Personally my bad habits include candy crush, sleep, and Facebook. If I’m bored I scroll through Facebook when I could be doing something more productive. It’s almost a subconscious habit. I get bored, I go to Facebook. To fix this I’ve been working on consciously asking myself if there is something more productive I could be doing instead of scrolling through Facebook or beating another level in candy crush. It’s all a conscious work out and it will take time to really get it down.
Some ways you can break bad habits include; break one habit at a time and go day by day. If you try to break all of them at one time you’re more likely to get overwhelmed, stressed, and discouraged. Tell your friends or family and help them keep you accountable with the process. Don’t make excuses and plan it out. Plan out the habit your going to break, how your going to break it, and when you are going to completely break the habit. Try to draw it out, write it out on a piece of paper, or write it on your mirror. Keep track of how your plan is going and what steps you have accomplished towards your goal. While you are in the process of breaking a bad habit go ahead and try to replace it with a good habit. For instance. You want to try to cut back on your sweets, anytime you get the urge to eat something sweet do some type of short exercise. Maybe do 20 push ups every time you crave a candy bar. You could apply this with nearly anything and be creative on how you replace it. You can do anything as long as the drive and want is there.
Now, habits aren’t always bad. You can create good habits that you can benefit from instead of hold you back. Here are some habits that you can pick up to help better yourself and create a more productive life style.
Daily exercise. Wether you spend 15 minutes on a treadmill or you do a kettle bell work. Daily exercise will have boost your endorphins and keep you in a better mood. Having a health lifestyle in general will create a more productive lifestyle. Currently I have a broken hand so I have only been doing 50 sit-ups before I take a shower. When my hand-held I will make it a habit to do 50 push ups, 50 sit-ups, and 50 dips before I take a shower as well as eating properly so I get the proper nutrients. We will talk about food choices in a later blog.
Relax. We as humans can’t just go-go-go all the time. We have to relax. Some ways to relax you can try yoga, meditation, or use a zen garden. There are many ways to clear your mind and each person is different, so figure out what really helps you relax. I enjoy reading, listening to a good band, or writing to help me relax. In such a stressful society you must have balance to keep yourself operating at your optimal performance.
Positive thoughts and positive thoughts about yourself are always important. By staying positive you have a different auroras round you. Your more personable and people are more likely to talk to you. It will always help you stay happy and motivated. It may be hard but consciously making the decision to stay positive will always help whatever situation you are in. Remember, don’t sweet the small stuff.
Writing is one of the best ways to organize your thoughts. You can also use it as a form of meditation which is also a very helpful tool and great habit to have. I try to write at least everyday. On some days I may write just a couple of sentences and on other days I may write pages. I literally just sit there and write down everything that pops in my head and write it down. I like to do this while watching tv. It’s probably beat to do it when sitting in a relaxed position in a quiet environment.
The last habit I’m going to cover for now is truly listen to whoever you are talking to. Listen with the want to understand them and what they are saying. When networking and leading a conversation I try to keep a balance of 80%/20%. Where I only talk 20% of the conversation and the other person talks the other 80% of the conversation. You can do this but asking questions that pertain directly to the subject and asking question to really fully understand what the other person is talking about or give your opinion or empathize. By doing this you allow the person to actually feel like you care instead of it just being another conversation. When doing this you will notice that some to most people will see you as a good listener and want to talk to you more.
These are some good habits to begin with. They are simple and easy to implement into your daily life. The biggest struggle will be to consciously make these changes. A lot of us get complacent with our day or some people their life and we just go through the motions. You have to break that. You will enjoy your days more and essentially start creating your own happiness.
Your probably wondering how does this play apart in making Yoski a habit. Well, Yoski is a feeling that you generate yourself by doing whatever it may be that is your Yoski. With habits, if you go one day without acting on a habit you have, you will most likely feel as if you had forgotten something or you feel like something is missing. All of these tips will help you get to this point. They are the beginning of a foundation to creating your Yoski into a habit.
